Rood 'humbled' to be re-elected in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex

Conservative Lianne Rood says she is honoured and humbled to be re-elected in the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

As of 11:31 p.m. Monday, 134 of 245 polls report that Rood received over 11,000 votes, which accounted for over 47 per cent.

"It is such a privilege to be elected again to represent the people of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex," said Rood.

The Liberal Party of Canada was projected to form a minority government.

"I think we did a really great job in opposition before, holding the government to account throughout the entire COVID crisis and we'll all continue to stand up for the things that Lambton-Kent-Middlesex needs.

Rood said she looks forward to continuing to push for broadband internet service within the riding and supporting the agriculture industry.

During this election campaign, Rood did not attend any of the all-candidates forums held within the riding. Rood said she didn't attend the first meeting due to a migraine.

"Public health guidelines tell me that I should stay home if I'm not feeling well so I followed public health guidelines," she said. "My team took a different approach to this campaign, we knocked on over 10,000 doors, made over 6,000 phone calls because I wanted to connect as much as possible with voters one on one across this riding."

Before being projected as the winner, Rood said it was a tough campaign due to pandemic-related restrictions.

"We didn't need this election. We still had two years left before the next election was supposed to be called," said Rood.

Rood was first elected as MP for the riding in 2019 with 49 per cent of the votes.

Preliminary results show that NDP candidate Jason Henry received 4,974votes, Liberal Party candidate Sudit Ranade received 4,973 votes, PPC candidate Kevin Mitchell received 2,906 votes, and Green Party candidate Jeremy Hull received 446 votes.
