Ridgetown-area home's furnace fire spreads to attic

Chatham-Kent fire officials are reminding residents to check their heating appliances after a furnace sparked a fire at a home just north of Ridgetown.

CK fire crews from Station 11 were called to the home at 13266 O'Neill Line at 7:25 p.m. Thursday for reports of a furnace on fire.

Officials said the fire quickly spread from the furnace room to the attic of the home, adding that the fire and water damages were estimated at $200,000.

No injuries were reported.

A release from CK fire said homeowners should make sure they have all of their heating appliances serviced to ensure proper operation, especially as outdoor temperatures cool down.
