Firefighters battle house fire in Wheatley

Damage is pegged around $350,000 after a house fire in Wheatley.

Firefighters from three stations were called to the blaze at 1293 4th Concession Line around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to Chatham-Kent Fire, the home was fully engulfed in flames and collapsed shortly after one crew arrived. Firefighters were able to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby barns and equipment.

Chatham-Kent police were also on scene and contacted the homeowner who was not home at the time of the fire.

Fire officials said heavy equipment is being brought in to assist firefighters with extinguishing the fire.

No injuries were reported and the cause is undetermined at this time.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
