Number of active COVID-19 cases drops in Chatham-Kent

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Chatham-Kent continues to fall.

CK Public Health reported nine new cases of the virus, along with 10 recoveries Wednesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the community to 48.

On Tuesday, 12 cases were listed as resolved with only one new case reported.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance reported Wednesday that two patients were in the hospital with COVID-19.  There are currently three employees off due to COVID-19 or exposure to the virus.

A total of five outbreaks remain in the community. No new outbreaks were reported Wednesday.

The latest outbreaks were reported Monday, at Chatham Christian High School and Thamesville Area Central Public School. Each outbreak has two cases.

In Chatham-Kent, adults have an 86 per cent first-dose coverage rate and a full vaccination rate of 82 per cent. Youth aged 12 to 17 have a 74 per cent first-dose coverage rate and a full vaccination rate of 68 per cent.

Provincially, there were 378 new cases reported Wednesday, along with five additional deaths. There are 237 people with COVID in Ontario hospitals, 317 of whom are in intensive care.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
