Driver on Hwy. 401 charged with stunt driving and impaired driving

A Lakeshore man has been accused of driving 165 km/h on Highway 401 while impaired.

On Sunday around 4 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a driver doing more than 165 km/hr on Highway 401 near Communications Road in Chatham-Kent.

Investigators said the 22-year-old driver was given a breath test and was arrested and taken to the local OPP detachment to do more tests.

The man has been charged with racing a motor vehicle and operation of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

Chatham-Kent OPP is reminding the public to contact provincial police or the nearest police service immediately if they see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver.

The OPP can be reached anytime, anywhere in the Province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be given by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) where tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff
