Flooding warning issued for Erie Shore Drive

The flood-prone area of Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent is under a flood warning.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued the warning Wednesday afternoon and said the area along Erie Shore Drive is already flooded and will continue to be throughout the remainder of the day and Thursday.

"Standing water continues to build up on properties," the LTVCA said in a news release. "There is water on and over the roadway in multiple locations."

Strong winds are expected to increase Thursday evening which could cause waves to reach up to three metres in height on the lake.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area to ensure safety.

The previously issued flood watch also remains in effect for other areas of the Lake Erie shoreline and is being extended through Thursday.
