Fire erupts at Wallaceburg Laundromat

Emergency crews in Chatham-Kent responded to a fire at Westown Laundromat in Wallaceburg early Tuesday evening.

According to fire officials, crews were called to a structure fire at the business on Dufferin Avenue sometime before 6 p.m.

The business owner and some customers reportedly contacted firefighters after they noticed smoke coming from one of the clothes dryers.

No one was injured during the blaze and everyone got out of the building safely.

"When Station 3 arrived on scene they could see smoke and flames coming from the roof of the business," Fire Public Educator Whitney Burk said in a release. "Firefighters quickly made entry into the building to pull ceilings and gain access to the fire, while firefighters worked on the rooftop opening vents."

Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 7:30 p.m. to work on overhaul.

The cause was ruled "accidental" and the damage is estimated at $175,000.
