One person injured in serious crash on Hwy. 401

A serious crash in Chatham-Kent has sent one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said officers from the Chatham-Kent detachment responded to a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a cargo van in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Orford Road around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. The OPP said the cargo van rolled and ended up in the ditch.

Police said the driver of the van was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The OPP is investigating the cause of the collision. They said the investigation is in its early stages and updates will be shared as they become available.

Chatham-Kent OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed the collision to please call 1-888-310-1122.

The stretch of road opened just before noon.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
