Very strong winds forecasted for Thursday

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning residents in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent about very strong winds expected on Thursday.

"Strong southwesterly winds with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h are expected to develop Thursday morning or early afternoon," read the statement. "The highest winds are expected along the shores of Lake Huron, where gusts of 90 km/h are likely."

The warning is for Windsor, Leamington, Essex County, Chatham-Kent, and Rondeau Park.

With the wind comes the increased risk of power outages and tree damage.

The agency said it might issue wind warnings in the hours ahead.

The wind should start to ease off Thursday night.
