Off-duty CK police officer accused of drunk driving, leaving scene

A 16-year veteran with the Chatham-Kent Police Service has been charged with impaired driving after a single vehicle crash in Chatham Wednesday night.

A release from the police service said officers were called to the scene on Howard Road near Indian Creek Road at around 7 p.m. Wednesday, adding that the driver, who had left the scene by the time police arrived, was an off-duty officer.

Police said 51-year-old Constable Bryan Vaughn was arrested at his residence and charged with having a blood alcohol content over the legal limit and failing to report an accident.

He was later released from custody and has been re-assigned to administrative duties.

Chatham-Kent police said they will not be providing any further information or comments while the matter is before the courts.
