Truck driver and trucking company charged after 401 collision

A truck driver from Brampton is facing a trio of charges after a collision on Highway 401 in Raleigh Township on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of the highway around 8:16 a.m. for reports of a collision involving two tractor-trailers.

According to Chatham-Kent OPP, investigation into the collision revealed that one transport truck was stopped on the westbound shoulder when it was struck by the second truck. One lane of the highway was closed throughout the morning as both vehicles were removed.

As a result, the 51-year-old truck driver of the second truck was charged with careless driving, failing to maintain a daily log and exceeding 13 hours of driving time without eight hours off.

Additionally, the trucking company was also charged with failing to monitor the driver's compliance with regulation.

The driver of the stationary truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
