Spike in COVID patients at Sarnia hospital

Bluewater Health is reporting a spike in the number of COVID-19 patients at the hospital.

On its website, the Sarnia hospital is reporting 41 positive patients, that's up from 29 reported on Friday.

Lambton Public Health reported 83 new lab confirmed cases of the virus Monday, for a total of 7,129 since the start of the pandemic.

The health unit reported 24 more resolved cases up to 5,547, increasing the number of active infections by 59 to 1,493.

The death toll is unchanged at 89, and there are 15 active outbreaks, up one from Sunday.

The latest outbreaks were declared over the weekend at the Sarnia Jail, Huron House Boys Home and Lambton County Developmental Services in Wyoming.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
