Sarnia-Lambton records 94th COVID death

The local death toll from COVID-19 has increased to 94.

Lambton Public Health on Friday reported another death linked to the virus. The health unit said the latest death was a long-term care resident in their 80s.

There are 15 active outbreaks in the community, many of them at long-term care homes. At Trillium Villa in Sarnia, 24 residents and 23 staff members have tested positive since January 3. Since December 31, 2021, there have been 20 positive resident cases at Sarnia's Sumac Lodge and 12 staff cases. Other facilities dealing with outbreaks include Marshall Gowland Manor, Afton Park Place, Fiddick's Nursing Home and Watford Quality Care.

In its daily update, the health unit reported 141 new lab confirmed infections and 210 resolved cases, lowering the active case count by 70 to 800.

Since March 2020, there have been 7,568 cases of COVID-19 in Sarnia-Lambton, 6,674 of which have been deemed resolved.

Bluewater Health has 41 COVID-positive patients in hospital, up from 35 on Thursday. In a tweet, Chief of Staff Dr. Mike Haddad said eight of the positive patients are in intensive care.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
