Local COVID death toll reaches 103

The local death toll from COVID-19 has gone up to 103.

The health unit said the latest death was reported on January 22. An individual in their 80s died in hospital.

Bluewater Health also reported another death, the 85th at the hospital since the start of the pandemic. Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said it was a man in his 90s.

There are 44 COVID-positive patients at the Sarnia hospital, down 11 from Monday, seven are in intensive care.

Lambton Public Health reported 26 new lab confirmed cases of the virus Tuesday, and 160 cases have been deemed resolved, lowering the number of known active infections by 135 to 428.

Since March 2020, there have been 8,478 confirmed cases recorded in Sarnia-Lambton and 7,947 recoveries.

The number of active outbreaks has dropped by two to 17.

An outbreak at Huron House Boys Home and another at Bluewater Health's Surgical B unit have ended.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
