Health unit reports 24th COVID death this month

There has been another COVID-related death in Sarnia-Lambton.

In its daily update, Lambton Public Health reported the death toll has risen to 107. It's the 24th related death this month, making January 2022 the deadliest month since the start of the pandemic.

The health unit said the latest fatality was a long-term care resident in their 90s.

The were 96 new lab confirmed cases of the virus reported Friday, up to 8,678 since the start of the pandemic. The number of resolved cases increased by 48 to 8,145, increasing the number of known active infections by 47 to 426.

There are 13 active outbreaks, down two from Thursday. Outbreaks declared at Fiddick's Nursing Home and Country Manor Estates have both ended.

Bluewater Health is reporting 41 COVID-positive patients in hospital, up from 35 on Thursday. Five of the patients are in intensive care.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
