LPH reports 33rd COVID death of 2022

There have been 33 COVID-related deaths reported in Sarnia-Lambton in 2022.

On Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported the deaths of a long-term care resident in their 60s and a resident in hospice in their 70s.

Since March 2020, the health unit has tallied 116 COVID-related deaths and a total of 9,275 confirmed cases -- 8,922 cases have been deemed resolved.

There were 70 new cases reported Wednesday, along with 45 resolved cases. Active infections are at 237.

Bluewater Health is treating 14 COVID-positive patients, including four in the ICU. The Sarnia hospital was treating 59 patients with the virus earlier this year.

According to the health unit's updated vaccination figures, a total of 2,317 shots were administered locally between January 30 and February 5. That included 159 first doses, 595 second shots and 1,458 boosters.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
