Ontario extends health card renewal deadline

If you still haven't renewed your health card, the Ontario government has pushed back the deadline to get it done.

The new deadline is September 30, 2022.

"While the majority of Ontarians have continued to renew their documents throughout the pandemic, we are committed to ensuring all Ontarians have the opportunity to renew while continuing to access the care they need when they need it," said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Wednesday.

The old deadline was February 28, 2022. That remains the date for drivers to update licence plate stickers and driver's licences.

In the meantime, Ontario residents can continue to use their expired health cards, including the old red and white version.

The public is encouraged to renew their documents online. In the coming months, ServiceOntario plans start renewing those requiring an updated photo online too.

Anyone who has difficulty renewing their health card can call ServiceOntario at 1-866-532-3161.
