Chatham couple wins over $500K on lotto ticket

One lucky Chatham couple is over $500,000 richer after winning big on a lottery ticket.

Sharon and Robert Nicholson won the second prize on the January 7 Lotto Max draw, winning $533,748.

According to Sharon, the couple are regular lottery players.

"I handed the ticket to the store clerk, and 'Big Winner' appeared on the terminal with a lot of numbers,” she said. “I didn’t think much of it until the clerk said, ‘you’re a big winner!’ I stood there in shock.”

The retirees said they plan to share the winnings with their children and grandchildren as well as use some of the money to do work around their home.

"This is a family win,” Sharon said.

According to the OLG, the winning ticket was purchased at Real Canadian Super Store on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
