UPDATE: Wind knocks over power lines south of Wallaceburg

Strong wind gusts Wednesday night knocked over some power lines causing outages around Wallaceburg throughout most of Thursday.

Hydro One crews said about 150 customers from Base Line down to Bear Line Road would be without power for most of the day.

A caller reported Thursday morning that a section of Base Line is still closed as a result and Hydro One said the lights aren't expected to come back on there until about 10 p.m. Thursday at the latest. As of 10:30 p.m., service to all of the effected areas has been restored.

There were also two other small power outages in Dover Centre and Highgate -- those were resolved at around noon on Thursday.

Sean Corbett, Frontline Manager with Hydro One, said 26 hydro poles came down after a microburst blew through the area. Corbett said fortunately it doesn't happen very often.

He said about 100 hydro workers from southwestern Ontario are working to repair the damage.
