It's going to be a while before masks won't have to be worn in places like hospitals and long term care homes in Ontario.
The province's chief medical officer of health announced Friday that the remaining mask mandates in Ontario are being extended for seven more weeks. Dr. Keiran Moore said the mandates will be lifted June 11. They were to expire on April 27.
“To protect our progress in managing this latest wave, I am maintaining masking requirements in specific public settings where individuals who are, or may be, at increased risk of severe outcomes, are in close contact for extended periods of time,” Moore said. “Continuing to follow masking requirements and keeping up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations are the best ways we can prevent transmission and protect our friends, families, and our communities.”
Until June 11, masks will still be required in hospitals, long term care and retirement homes, public transit, and shelters and other congregate settings that provide care and services to medically and socially vulnerable individuals.
