Teachers union backs local NDP candidates

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation is endorsing all four local NDP candidates for the upcoming provincial election.

The union indicated it is backing the local NDP candidates because of their commitment to making investments in the classroom.

"I know that economics is on everybody's mind but we really do have to make investments. Anybody who has children knows that it has been very difficult and NDP is willing to make investments into education, directly to the classroom," said OSSTF District 9 President Erin Roy.

OSSTF endorsed NDP candidate Lisa Gretzky in Windsor-West, Gemma Grey-Hall in Windsor-Tecumseh, Ron LeClair in Essex, and Brock McGregor in Chatham-Kent-Leamington.

The OSSTF has asked candidates throughout the province to support its platform for education. The union is asking for increased student supports, improved learning conditions, and better working conditions.

The provincial election is on June 2, 2022.
