Bothwell garage fire causes $100K in damage

A garage fire in Bothwell has left a homeowner with an estimated $100,000 in damages.

Firefighters from Station 9 in Bothwell along with a tanker from Station 8 in Thamesville responded to the detached garage fire Friday afternoon just after 4 p.m.

Officials said the homeowner was burning brush when the fire spread to nearby trees and the garage.  The owner attempted to put the fire out but the garage along with a classic car and motorcycle were lost in the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

After responding to three separate brush fire incidents on Friday, Chatham-Kent Fire is reminding residents to never leave fires unattended.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
