Vigil in Chatham to mark Red Dress Day

A special gathering will be held Thursday evening in Chatham to recognize, honour, and raise awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).

The vigil will take place at the Bleak House (495 King Street West) in Chatham from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and coincides with National Red Dress Day, which is observed across Canada on May 5.

The initiative began in 2010 as "an aesthetic response" to artist Jaime Black’s REDress Project.

Organizers said there will be prayers, a smudge, hand drums, and guest speakers.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
