Maroons win game 5 in Leamington

The Chatham Maroons are just one win away from advancing to the GOJHL Sutherland Cup playoffs.

Noah Szabo had a hat trick to lead the Maroons to a 5-3 win over the Leamington Flyers in game 5 of the Western Conference Final, as Chatham takes a 3-2 series lead.

Szabo's first goal on the powerplay at 9:05 of the first period opened the Maroons scoring. The Flyers tied it up, but Szabo scored another powerplay goal at 4:51 in the second, then teammate Lucas Fancy and Issac Legood scored to put Chatham up 4-1.

Leamington scored late in the second to make it 4-2 heading into the third, but Szabo scored again at 4:44. The Flyers added another goal but Chatham held on for the win. Nolan DeKoning made 28 saves to get the win.

The Maroons can close out the series at home. Game 6 goes Saturday at 3 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Arena.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
