Woman charged with arson after Timmins Crescent fire

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is charged with arson in connection with a fire that started in the basement of a four-plex she lives in on Timmins Crescent in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said members of the Criminal Investigation Section determined that a woman who was living in the building started the fire by acting "carelessly."

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday and the woman was arrested a day later.

She was taken back to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

No injuries were reported and fire officials said they were also able to safely rescue a 5-foot Python Snake.
