Brave CK firefighters honoured for lifesaving efforts on icy Lake St. Clair

A handful of Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue team members are being publicly recognized for their brave effort during an icy rescue on Mitchell's Bay last year.

Fire officials said five firefighters from Station #4 in Dover were presented with the St. John Ambulance Lifesaving Award this week for their "tremendous efforts" during a fatal accident on the ice.

Brent Aitken, 43, of Chatham died on February 13, 2021 when two snowmobiles crashed on Lake St. Clair near Mitchell’s Bay. Another person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"I am extremely proud of our firefighters for being recognized by our partnering agencies for such a challenging occurrence," said Fire Chief Chris Case. "Congratulations from everyone at CK Fire."

The awards were presented to Ray Trahan Sr., Richard Peltier, Natasha Lozon, Paul Tremblay, and Andre Lapris at the West Region Awards Ceremony for the OPP held in Chatham on Wednesday.
