Environment Canada issued the special air quality statement for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex on Saturday at 11:22 a.m.
The national weather agency advised that possible high levels of air pollution are expected Saturday.
The statement was lifted early Sunday morning for the southwestern region.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
The annual Canada Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, from Wildwood Park to Kenwick Park.
The $7.6 million project, which also involved water and sewer infrastructure improvements, began in 2024.
