UPDATE: Scammers try to cash in on Rogers outage

In the wake of Friday's Canada-wide outage, Rogers Communications promised a proactive credit to customers affected by the black-out.

It didn't take long for fraudsters to take advantage of the situation. Not even a day after communication lines came back online Rogers is warning people of a text scam.

An example of the text was posted on social media by the Peel police on Sunday morning.

The company advises that any credits will be added directly to the customer's account and no action needs to be taken.

Anyone who does receive a suspicious text is asked to report it to Rogers by forwarding it to 7726 (SPAM).
