COVID outbreaks and hospitalizations down

The number of active COVID-19 outbreaks in the community has dropped by half.

Lambton Public Health says there are three outbreaks in congregate living settings, down from six a week ago. The latest was declared on Tuesday, August 23 at Trillium Villa in Sarnia.

In its weekly update Wednesday, the health unit reported 95 new lab confirmed cases of the virus, for a total of 12,662 since the start of the pandemic. The local death toll is unchanged at 150.

The daily average number of cases over the last seven days is 13, down from 15 last week.

Bluewater Health has seen a drop in the number of positive patients. According to its website Wednesday morning, there are fewer than five COVID patients at the hospital, down from 19 a week ago.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
