Arrest made three months after cyclists were killed on Walpole Island

Walpole Island police have made an arrest in connection to the death of two cyclists on the First Nation almost three months ago.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced on Wednesday that Delsin Wade Johnson-Shipman, 22, of Walpole Island First Nation, has been arrested and charged with two counts each of operation of a vehicle while impaired causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

Two cyclists on River Road were struck and killed by a driver on June 22, 2022 shortly before 5 a.m. between Firehall Road and Austin Road.

Michelle White, 36, and Gretta Williams, 50, both from the First Nation, were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
