Miskokoman new Walpole Island chief

A familiar face has been elected chief at Walpole Island First Nation.

Over the weekend, residents elected Dan Miskokoman chief for the next two years.

Miskokoman has previously served as chief in the 1990s and early 2000s. Most recently he was defeated by Charles Sampson in 2020 after serving three consecutive terms.

Elaine Wrightman topped the polls for councilor with 556 votes followed by Cody Miskokomon with 488.

There were 27 candidates vying for one of the 12 seats on band council.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
