High winds possible across southern Ontario Wednesday

You may end up having a bad hair day Wednesday as a special weather statement is in effect.

Environment Canada has issued a statement for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, Elgin, and Oxford Counties.

The weather agency said Tuesday that wind gusts of up 90 kilometres per hour are possible in some areas Wednesday afternoon and evening. Some of these wind gusts may be accompanied by showers or thunderstorms.

A wind warning is also in effect for Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce, with winds expected to pick up Wednesday morning, and could exceed 90 kilometres per hour.

High winds may result in damaged hydro lines and power outages. Loose objects may be tossed around. Soft shelters, tents, awnings, and similar objects may also be damaged.

The wind is forecast to come from the south ahead of a cold front. Winds are expected to die down early Thursday morning with the front coming through.
