Charges laid after fatal crash in August near Tilbury

A 31-year-old Scarborough man is now facing a pair of charges in connection with a crash on Queen's Line near Tilbury in August that claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman.

Chatham-Kent police previously reported that a cement truck was heading west, approaching the Highway 401 access ramp on Queen's Line when it veered into oncoming traffic and hit an SUV that was heading east.

The cement truck then went off the road and through a ditch before stopping in a cornfield. The SUV spun into the ditch on the south side of the road.

The 55-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was airlifted to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the cement truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged 31-year-old Alistair Gonsalves of Scarborough with dangerous driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

He will be required to attend court on November 14 to answer to the charges.
