Afternoon collision leads to impaired driving charge
A collision in Dover Township has led to an impaired driving charge for a 27-year-old man.
Just before 1 p.m. on Thursday, Chatham-Kent police were called to a single-vehicle collision on Jacob Road. According to police, the vehicle lost control and left the roadway, striking a hydro pole before coming to rest in a ditch.
Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol. As a result, he was arrested and transported to police headquarters for additional breath tests.
The Chatham Township man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and eventually released with conditions and a future court date.

Wanted man located after shoplifting complaint
Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a man who was on their wanted list after he was allegedly caught shoplifting.
Around 7:19 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a shoplifting complaint.
Once officers arrived, they learned that the man allegedly removed items from the store and left without making attempts to pay for the items. Store security detained the man and retrieved the items. Police also learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.
The 52-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested following traffic stop
What started as a traffic stop in Wallaceburg has landed a Walpole Island man in trouble with the law.
According to police, officers conducted the stop on McNaughton Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Through investigation, police learned the man was wanted on a warrant held by Lambton OPP and was arrested. It was also learned the court had released the man with conditions, including not possessing any unlawful drug or substance without a valid prescription.
After arresting the man, police allegedly found the man in possession of a prescription of hydromorphone pills that were not in his name.
As a result, the 42-year-old was charged with failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
