Alleged shoplifter caught with drugs in Leamington

A Chatham man faces a list of charges after an incident at a business in Leamington.

The Ontario Provincial Police got a complaint about an alleged shoplifter at a store on Erie Street South just before 6 p.m. on Sunday.

An employee at the store witnessed the man shoplifting.

Officers found the suspect at another store nearby, but during the arrest, they also found opioids and cocaine.

The 37-year-old faces a count of theft under $5,000, two drug-related charges, and a fourth count of obstructing a peace officer.

The accused will appear in a Leamington courtroom on January 13, 2023.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
