UPDATE: Rainfall warnings end for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex

The year of 2022 is going out with a soaker.

A rainfall warning is in effect for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, and surrounding areas until Saturday night.

Environment Canada says rain, heavy at times, is expected and the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb the rainfall. Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 35 mm are anticipated, according to the national weather agency.

Weather officials said heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Environment Canada is also urging parents and guardians to keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.

UPDATE: At 2:41 p.m., the rainfall warning ended for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and surrounding areas.
