21-year-old driver leads OPP on highspeed chase through Chatham-Kent

A 21-year-old from LaSalle is facing multiple charges after leading police through a high-speed chase that went through Chatham-Kent.

Just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, OPP initiated a traffic stop in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent. According to police, the driver of the vehicle allegedly failed to stop for police and sped away at a high rate of speed.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle at a service centre and arrested the driver without incident.

As a result, the driver was charged with failing to stop for police, speeding, driving a vehicle with an unsealed container of liquor, driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available, and driving a vehicle without a valid permit.

The driver is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court in Chatham at a later date.
