End-of-life care at CK Hospice becomes more compassionate

Families wanting to cuddle with their loved ones getting end-of-life care at Chatham-Kent Hospice are now able to get up and close to snuggle.

Chatham-Kent Hospice has bought a new cuddle bed thanks to funds from a recent grant from the South Kent Wind Community Fund, a fund in the Chatham Kent Community Foundation.

Executive Director of Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation Jodi Maroney said the bed is a regular sized bed that can extend to 48 inches in width to allow room for cuddling. The bed can also extend in length to accommodate someone over seven feet tall and be used for bariatric patients.

“We are very excited to now have a cuddle bed in house. We can think of so many opportunities where this bed will help provide more comfort for our residents and their families," said Manager of Clinical Operations Sally Jenkins. "For example, for the husband and wife who have been married for years will now be able to lay together; a grandma or grandpa will be able to have their grandchildren crawl into bed with them, or a resident who needs a bit more space will now have a comfortable bed.”

Officials noted this bed enables Hospice to offer the most compassionate, end-of-life care possible.
