Previous story below from February 5, 2023:

The speed limit on Park Avenue West in Chatham could be reduced if a municipal review deems it necessary.

Councillor Amy Finn will be asking administration at Monday night's Council meeting to review the current 60 km/hr and 70 km/hr speed limit zones on Park Avenue West and determine if any reductions or adjustments are needed.

Finn cited more residential development in the area of Park Avenue West between Wedgewood Avenue and Bloomfield Road and more vehicular, pedestrian and cyclist traffic as reasons.

She also noted school buses will also be stopping along the road and there are no sidewalks in the area between Keil Drive and Bloomfield Road.

Bloomfield Road is a 50 km/hr zone.

Council would still need to approve the reduction in speed at a future meeting if it was recommended by staff.
