UPDATE: Weather alert issued for freezing rain on Wednesday

A freezing rain storm is expected to hit southwestern Ontario in the middle of the week, according to multiple statements from Environment Canada.

On Monday, a special weather statement was issued for the following areas: Windsor and Essex County, Sarnia and Lambton County, London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, and Oxford County. The statement was later upgraded to a winter storm watch Tuesday morning.

The storm will move across southern parts of the province on Wednesday night and continue into Thursday. Prolonged periods of freezing rain are expected, which could result in significant ice accretion.

Huron County, Perth County, Wellington County, and the Grey-Bruce area can expect a "wintry mix" with a risk of freezing rain.
