Murder charge laid against Tilbury man

A Tilbury man has been arrested and charged with murder after a man who was reported missing was found dead.

Ken Baylis, 32, of Tilbury has been charged with 2nd degree murder. Baylis has appeared in court and was remanded in custody until a later date.

Chatham-Kent police said Daniel Marchand, 45, was reported missing last week and was found deceased at a home on Dufferin Avenue in Tilbury on Wednesday.

Police said a post-mortem examination was completed on Thursday and the preliminary cause of death was determined to be homicide.

Police noted this is an isolated incident and there is no information to suggest members of the public are at risk.

"The Chatham-Kent Police wish to pass along our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Daniel Marchand," police said in a statement.

The investigation continues and the public is asked to contact police if they have information about the homicide.
