Man arrested after shooting in downtown Chatham

One man is charged with attempted murder and another is recovering in hospital following a shooting in downtown Chatham early Sunday.

Chatham-Kent police responded to the area of King Street West and Fifth Street at around 1 a.m.

Police said the 32-year-old victim was shot after having a confrontation with the suspect, a 25-year-old man. The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

The victim was underdoing treatment for his injuries and is listed in stable condition.

Police said the situation is an isolated incident involving persons known to each other.
