UPDATE: Electrical fire fallout prompts Blenheim Pool closure

The Gable Rees Rotary Pool in Blenheim will be closed for the day on Friday after an electrical fire broke out in one of the change rooms late Thursday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent fire officials said firefighters from Station 18 in Blenheim were called to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday for reports of flames in one of the change rooms.

Firefighters were reportedly met with heavy black smoke by the time they arrived at the pool and were able to quickly knock down the flames, keeping the fire contained to the shower area.

Crews stayed at the scene until the smoke had cleared and worked with fire investigators into the evening hours.

The cause is going down as electrical and no injuries were reported.

There is no word on a damage estimate, but CK Recreation posted a note on social media saying that the Gable Rees Pool will be closed on Friday, June 9.

That closure also affected a planned PA day swim at the pool.

CK Recreation posted on social media that Gable Rees Rotary Pool will reopen Saturday, June 10th, 2023 for regularly scheduled programming.

Both the men's and women's changerooms will be unavailable. However, access to the single-use family changeroom will still be available.
