Two cats killed in afternoon house fire

Nobody was injured in a residential fire that broke out in southeast Chatham on Wednesday, but sadly, two cats have died as a result of the incident.

Just before 3 p.m., fire crews were called to a two-storey home at 4 Lorne Avenue with reports of heavy smoke. Firefighters arrived to find the home was ablaze and immediately got to work.

The fire was knocked down and the residence searched multiple times.

At this time, the cause of the fire as not been determined, nor has an estimate of the damages.

Crews remain at the scene investigating the incident. The public is asked to avoid the area.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
