UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms anticipated

Severe thunderstorms were expected to move across parts of southwestern Ontario late Thursday afternoon and into the evening hours.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex. Around 5:30 p.m., the latter two regions were placed under a severe thunderstorm warning.

The national weather agency said thunderstorms developing over lower Michigan were expected to move southeast.

All watches and warnings for both areas were called off before 9 p.m.

Residents are reminded to go indoors when "thunder roars" as lightning kills and injures Canadians each year.
