UPDATE: Tornadoes, microburst confirmed in Windsor-Essex

The Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed two tornadoes and a microburst in Windsor-Essex, that took place during Sunday evening's severe thunderstorm.

A survey team had been sent to look at the damage in three locations, plus one area south of Chatham.

Two EF-0 tornadoes, the least-destructive category, were confirmed to have touched down in the east Windsor-south Tecumseh area, as well as in west Windsor in an area stretching between Walker Road and the LaSalle town line.

An EF-0 microburst was also confirmed in the Town of Essex. The survey team had been looking at reports of damage stretching between Essex and Amherstburg. A microburst is a narrow column of sinking air within a thunderstorm, which can cause sudden damage on the surface.

The team is asking the public to submit photos of additional storm damage to ntp@uwo.ca or on Twitter @NTP_Reports.

Damage was also reported in an area southeast of Chatham to the west of Hwy. 401, near North Buxton.

The project was founded six years ago at Western University in London to track tornadoes across Canada.
