3-on-3 charity ball hockey tournament coming to Ridgetown

Time is running out to sign up for the 4th annual Tuukka Cup.

The 3-on-3 charity ball hockey tournament will take place at the Ridgetown arena on Saturday, August 26, but the deadline to register is Tuesday, August 15.

Mike Boersma started the tournament in 2018 after his cousin Ronny Betterley passed away from DIPG, a rare childhood brain cancer.

"He loved hockey more than anything in life, so in honour of him I started the hockey tournament," said Boersma. "We just raise money for children's charities, including the Ronald McDonald House, Childcan, and Make A Wish Canada, which all helped him through his journey."

This is the fourth year for the tournament, and in that time they've raised over $36,000.

Kids between the ages of 7 and 17 can register a team.

"Teams of up to seven players for only $20 per player," said Boersma. "We'll have games, prizes, and a barbecue in addition to the games. There's an accuracy contest, and shot radar, so lots of fun for the kids."

Each team is guaranteed to play four games, and will be divided by into divisions by age.

Boersma added that the winning teams get a very unique prize.

"We have a 2/3 replica Stanley Cup, and then the winning teams in each age division will gets their names put right on the cup. Then it's on permanent display at the Ridgetown Arena."
