Labour Day in CK

As Labour Day approaches, residents of Chatham-Kent can expect several municipal offices and services to be closed on Monday, September 4.

If you're hoping to knock errands off your to-do list, here's a list of what's open and closed in the region on Monday.

Chatham:

  • Transit services: Ride CK Transit services will not be operational on Monday, September 4. Residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly.

  • Service Ontario locations: Service Ontario's Chatham and Dresden locations will be closed on September 4.

  • Entegrus and Public Utilities Commission: Entegrus and the Public Utilities Commission will be closed—emergency call number (519-352-6300) for urgent matters.

  • Fleet Services office: The office of Fleet Services (PABC) will be closed.

  • Employment and Social Services: Employment and Social Services will not be operational on Monday, September 4. However, the Homeless Response Line (519-354-6628) will remain accessible for homeless emergencies within Chatham-Kent throughout the day.

  • Housing Services: Housing Services will be closed.EarlyON Programs: All EarlyON programs will remain closed on September 4.

  • Libraries: All branches of the Chatham-Kent Public Library will be closed.

  • CK Public Health: CK Public Health facilities will be closed on September 4. After-hours essential Public Health services can be accessed by calling 1-866-446-8207.

  • Provincial Offences Court: The Court will not operate on Monday. It will reopen on Tuesday, September 5, at 8:30 a.m. Fines can be paid online during the office closure at www.paytickets.ca.

  • Pools and arenas: All municipal pools and arenas will remain closed.

  • Waste and recycling services: Waste collection services will experience a one-day delay during the week of September 4. Refer to the 2023 Recycling and Waste Collection Guide for further information.

  • Transfer stations and leaf/yard depots: All Transfer Stations and Leaf/Yard Depots will be closed on Monday, September 4.

  • Riverview Gardens: Reception and administrative offices at Riverview Gardens will be closed, but regular services, activities, and visiting hours will continue as scheduled. Nursing staff will be available 24/7 at 519-352-4823.

  • Arts and Culture facilities: Several cultural and arts venues, including Chatham Capitol Theatre, Kiwanis Theatre, Chatham Cultural Centre, Chatham-Kent Museum, Ridge House Museum, Thames Art Gallery, and ARTspace, will remain closed on Monday, September 4. However, the Milner House will be open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Chatham-Kent Tourism: CK Tourism will be closed. For visitor information at any time, individuals can visit www.visitck.ca.

  • Canada Post: No collection or delivery of mail on Sept. 4. 

  • Grocery stores: 

    • Most grocery stores will operate on holiday hours.

    • Select LCBO and Beer Store locations will be open as well.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Services:

  • Elston Pharmacy, located at the Chatham Site, will be closed.

  • The Oncology/Chemotherapy Department will be closed.

  • The Business Office and Cashier's Office will be closed.

  • Hemodialysis Care will be open on Monday.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
