Early morning house fire

Early Saturday morning, the Chatham-Kent Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 127 Wellington Street East, Chatham, around 3:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported flames from the first-floor windows.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire on the first floor as they continued to work on the second story, dismantling the ceiling to gain access to a deeply seated fire that had extended into the attic.

Chatham-Kent EMS and Chatham-Kent Police were on the scene assisting fire crews.

No one was home when the fire erupted, and no injuries were reported.

As of now, the extent of the damage remains unknown, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
