Motorcycle passenger dies after crashing into boat trailer

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a serious crash that claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman who was riding on a motorcycle.

Police said first responders were called to the scene at around 3 p.m. Sunday on Mill Street East at Tilbury Street, just outside of Tilbury.

Investigators said their investigation so far shows that a motorcycle carrying two people hit a boat trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck, which was turning onto Tilbury Street from Mill Street East.

Both of the people on the motorcycle were taken to the hospital, but the 70-year-old woman who was the passenger on the motorbike was later pronounced dead.

Police said the motorcycle driver suffered minor injuries and the occupants of the pickup truck were not physically injured.

Officers said, at this time, they would not be releasing the identity of the woman who died "out of respect for the family."

Anyone with information that could help police with their investigation is asked to contact Constable Kristen Charron at 519-355-1092 or kristenc@chatham-kent.ca.
